The city of Abu Dhabi is shedding its traditional image and is slowly becoming a cultural and tourism hub of the world.

Museums such as Louvre Abu Dhabi, Heritage Village and the Guggenheim museum give us enough evidence of the same. Abu Dhabi has a lot of diversity in its museums like the Emirates National Auto Museum, the Zayed Heritage Center, Al Ain Palace Museum and the Maritime Museum, just to name a few. In recent years, the Saadiyat Island Cultural District has emerged as a hot destination that houses a variety of modern museums and art galleries.

Emirates National Auto Museum

The Emirates National Auto Museum is situated on the Hameen Road, Al Bhasra, and is a privately owned vehicle museum of Sheikh Hamad bin Hamdan Al Nahyan. The building is structured in the form of a modern day pyramid and it holds just about 200 exhibition items. The amazing collection consists of a large collection of Mercedes, military vehicles, towable caravans, sports cars, etc. The museum can be reached easily, but it is advisable to confirm the opening time before venturing on the trip.

This well-known museum is dedicated to the late Sheikh Zayed, who is also lovingly known as the 'Father of the Nation'. The museum lies in Abu Dhabi's Al Bateen district and is home to many of his personal belongings, photographs, hunting rifles and other memorabilia. The most striking part of the museum is the compilation of the President's exquisite vehicles and his collection of stuffed cheetahs and lions.

The eminent Louvre museum in Paris is all set to share its name and values with Abu Dhabi by means of its division in Abu Dhabi. This museum has the potential to be one of the most influential buildings in the world after its completion in the year 2017. The museum is positioned at the Saadiyat Island Cultural District and will showcase arts and artefacts from all around the world in its 260,000 sq ft space.

Sheikh Zayed Palace Museum also known as Al Ain Palace Museum, is a museum in Al Ain city within Abu Dhabi. This museum is based in the palace which was once the residence of UAEs most beloved personalities Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and his family. It has been creatively refurbished to enable the visitors to have a glimpse of the life he led. The museum has many rooms with an art gallery.

Maritime Museum

Maritime Museum

The Maritime Museum also known as "Abu Dhabi History Museum and Aquarium" is dedicated solely to Abu Dhabi’s bond with the sea and explores the city’s naval history and maritime setting. The museum is designed by the famous Japanese architect Tadao Ando, in which he has seamlessly merged land and sea in its architecture. The museum also features an underground aquarium along with a traditional dhow in the ‘Memory of Zayed’, the boat which successfully finished a historic journey across the Atlantic Ocean.

Guggenheim Abu Dhabi

The Guggenheim is a planned museum in Abu Dhabi, which is touted to be the largest of the Guggenheim museums in the world. The museum is constructed on Saadiyat Island and is expected to get completed by the year 2017. The Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation in New York City has signed an agreement with the city of Abu Dhabi to manage and establish the museum.
